Happy End of the School Year!

Hi Parents,
      The following will be the lesson plans for the rest of the school year.  As you can imagine, we are finishing up and reviewing skills in all subjects.  This has been a great year with your precious students.
I appreciate the privilege of teaching them and seeing the growth they have all portrayed.  I am so proud of this class!  They have worked diligently and put forth their best efforts!

We will have a class talent show on Friday, May 11th.  Each student can perform in some special way for the class.  It can be reading a poem, singing, dancing, playing an instrument, showing a skill, etc.  He or she can come dressed for the show but bring a change of uniform clothes.  It's a fun day!

Lesson Plans for April 23-27

Hi Parents,
      Second graders are working hard on map skills and identifying the 50 states.  We have games, puzzles, fact cards, and wipe-off maps to reinforce this in the classroom.   In Handwriting, the students have learned all the lower case letters in cursive.  We are now working on the upper case letters.  Have them practice for you at home!

Lesson Plans for April 16-20

Hi Parents,
       We had a great week in Reading with "The Art Lesson" by Tomie dePaola.  The students created artwork with water colors, chalk, crayons, colored pencils, and markers.  Friday we had a special day of "Froggy Art".  Everything we made and read had to do with frogs!

Happy Easter!

Parents,
     I hope you experience a wonderful Easter with your sweet families as you celebrate our risen Savior!  It  is such a special time of hope and gratefulness.  We had a meaningful Easter Chapel today led by our third graders.  Special activities, stories, and Easter treats have made this a fun week!  Remember no school tomorrow on Good Friday.

Baby Evie is here!

Hi Parents,
     This is my new granddaughter Evie Gray Jones!  We are so blessed to have this new bundle of joy in our family!  Staying with my daughter and helping her with Evie and Anne Wesley, my other precious granddaughter, was such a wonderful privilege.  This is a picture of Everett, my husband, who so many of you prayed for faithfully during his surgery.  He is holding his namesake Evie.    God has blessed us beyond measure and we are eternally grateful!

     I was so glad to see my students today!  I heard great reports from Mrs. Adams about how hard they worked.  I am so proud of them!    We will be having our Spelling test and a Language test on Thursday.  Science Fest will be on Friday.  This is a great day for students to experience the many wonders of Science!  They will be dismissed at 11:30.  Spring Break is next week, March 26-30.  Enjoy this time together!

Lesson Plans for March 12-16

Hi Parents,
      We have had such a fun time in reading with the "Thunder Cake" story.  Many thanks to Jenny McClinton for providing us with a homemade thunder cake and lemonade.  The children loved it!  We learned from the story that we can help get over fears by focusing on other things.  Super Second Grade Recipes will be coming home on Monday.  Thank you for sending recipes that your child enjoys!

Lesson Plans for the Week of February 27-March 2

Hi Parents,
       We had fun this week reading the story "Jalapeno Bagels"  in class.  There were many Spanish words in the vocabulary so it gave us a chance to brush up on our Spanish pronunciations.  Friday, we completed this story with a "bagel party" including bagels topped with their choices of cream cheese, butter, grape jelly, and sprinkles.  Yum!  In Monday folders, there will be descriptive paragraphs that the students have written.  They did a great job!

Happy President's Day!

Hi Parents,

Lesson Plans for February 13-16

Hi Parents,
       Second graders have had a fun and challenging time in Math using money!  Mrs. J's Sweet Shoppe opened today in our classroom.  At our store, the children use play money to buy Blow Pops 61 cents, Sweet Tarts 56 cents,  Air Heads 37 cents, Tootsie Pops 73 cents, or Rice Krispies 42 cents.  They bring the exact change to me in play money to purchase the candy.  Then they get the money back!  I wish it really worked that way!  Our Valentine party will be on Tuesday, February 14th.  If your child has not brought their valentines for the class, please send them on Monday.  Their bags are ready and waiting!

Lesson Plans for February 6-10

Hi Parents,
      Hope you enjoyed this beautiful weekend!  The month of February is filled with fun activities.  On Tuesday, we will go on a field trip to the Davis Theatre to see the play "Henry and Mudge".  The Valentine party is always a favorite for the students.  It will take place next week on February 14th.  We have a school holiday on Friday, February 17th and Monday, February 20th.  For President's Day, we study George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We will read and write about these famous Presidents.

Lesson Plans for January 30-February 3

Hi Parents,
      I am so thankful to be back with my class this week!  They have been so sweet to pray, send me notes, and carry on nicely in my absence.  Michelle Adams did a great job and I am so grateful for her leadership.
      Folders will come home on Tuesday instead of Monday this week.  Thank you for your patience with folders and blog postings.  Everett, my husband, is doing well.  He is just having to take things slow and easy.  It was such a privilege to be able to stay home with him and help in his recovery.  We continue to be amazed at God's gracious healing power!

Lesson Plans for January 9-13

Hi Parents,
      The take-off flight to Spain today was a great start to our Spanish culture study!  The students checked in their baggage and buckled up for a tour of Spain.  We look forward to all the activities this will involve.
      We are also blasting off to Space in Second Grade.  The students have been making rockets and astronauts to display their pictures.  We are looking forward to the fathers' field trip to the Planetarium on Tuesday, January10th.  We will leave Trinity at 9:00 and return by 11:00.  If any dads can't come we will have plenty of carpools.  Moms, grandparents, etc. can accompany your child instead.  In Monday folders, look for a note about our upcoming space project.

Happy New Year!

  Parents,
        I hope you had a wonderful holiday with your family!  I look forward to seeing the students tomorrow and hearing about their Christmas vacations.  January is filled with many fun activities! The elementary grades will be involved in a Spanish cultural study beginning Friday, January 6th and continuing throughout the month.   A date to remember is the Fathers' Field Trip on Tuesday, January 10th to W.A. Gayle Planetarium.  We will leave Trinity at 9:00 and return by 11:00.
